The three biggest global trends in theme parks

Leisure trends the world over are influenced by culture, disposable income and local infrastructure, which of course, vary widely. But there are three trends in theme parks which I’m seeing consistently across all markets, and which I’m confident are set to continue...

PROJECT OVERVIEW

New for 2018 at Chessington World of Adventure was Tiger Rock, a re-themed experience and animal enclosure to update the tired and dated Mystic East area of the theme park. Saturn Imagineering was instrumental in bringing this new land to life, providing the initial concept master plan and detailed design of all the theming elements to ensure the project was delivered to meet the high expectations of the park guests.

The Mystic East area of the theme park originally opened with the park and was closed in 2017 with the idea of bringing a collection of Sumatran Tigers into the park, and to offer guests an up close and personal animal experience whilst riding the parks log flume. Saturn Imagineering worked with the client team to produce the master plan for this experience which incorporated a re-theme of the entire area, as well as the introduction of three large tiger enclosures that were up to the highest of standards, both for safety and for the tigers’ enjoyment. These enclosures were connected using a variety of walkways where visitors can get a unique viewpoint of these beautiful animals, the first of its type outside of America.

Alongside the enclosures, there were additional theming elements across the new land, which included an area where the animal keepers could give talks and interact with the visitors. The land was a big success for the park in bringing in new visitors to a refreshed area of the park and was highly marketable.
